Descriptive Writing Essay

Write a three to four paragraph essay (4-5 sentences in each paragraph) in which you DESCRIBE the following:

Pretend you are writing for a magazine called Vivacious Visitor. Write an article describing a real or imaginary place. You should include so many details and descriptions that your reader can picture the spot in his/her mind.

You must include
1. Description using the five senses. Label and underline your examples.
2. A simile (uses like or as). Label.
3. A metaphor. Label.

I will be looking for the following things (in addition to correct grammar, mechanics, and spelling):

• • Details are consistent

• • Tone and mood maintained

• • Details in logical order

• • Vivid sensory details (sight, smell, touch, taste, hear)

• • Figurative language

Rough draft due Thursday beginning of class.
Ms. v will read your drafts during class and pass them back.
Friday after the vocab test we will be in the computer lab working on a second draft. Papers will be due Friday or first thing Monday (depending on your typing speed)
