The B.H.S.S. National Honor
Society will have its winter blood drive on Thursday, February 16, 2006
starting at 8:00AM. Donor registration will run Monday, February 6 through Wednesday
February 13 in the cafeteria during all lunches. Donors must be at least 17
years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be feeling generally well.
Identification (such as a state issued driver's license) will be required. ALL students
must have parental or guardian permission to
donate.
All donors are encouraged to eat well balanced meals and drink plenty of
fluids in the days prior to donating!
Why should YOU give
blood?
- Because you never know when you might need it. 7 out of 10 Americans
will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lifetime.
- A safe blood supply isn't just for the sick; it's also for the victims
of random accidents, violence, and injuries. Every 2 seconds someone
in the United States needs blood.
- Right now our area needs 650 people to give blood every day just to
meet patients' needs.
- One pint of your blood can help save the lives of as many as three
people.
- Giving blood is quick, easy, and relatively simple. It's
something you can do every 56 days.
- Not enough people are giving blood. While 60% of the public are
eligible to donate, only 5% actually do. The reason we have blood
supply today is because people have donated in the past, and continue to
donate on a regular basis. You need to give blood now so it will be
there when you need it.
- You'll feel good about it when you do it. Whether you consider it a
civic duty or a higher calling, you will get a profound sense of
accomplishment.
