The National Honor Society is one of the
oldest clubs at Bloomington High School South. Chapter
membership
not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop
further through active
involvement in school activities and community service.
Membership in the N.H.S. is based upon election by members of the faculty council.
The four criteria
for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities
are built.
Scholarship
After seven terms of work for juniors and ten terms of academic work by seniors,
students who
have cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or above are notified by the chapter
advisor that they
are academically eligible for election to the society.
Character
A student of good character possesses integrity, upholds principles of morality
and ethics,
demonstrates positive behavior, exhibits a posture of cooperation, and shows
respect for others.
In examining character, the faculty council will consider whether there exists
recorded incidents of
cheating or intentional dishonesty, as well as a record of skipping classes or
of knowingly violating
school regulations.
Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters
of school
activities, idea-contributors, and dependable.
Service
Students are required to have participated in at least two
school activities, or one
school activity
and one community service activity.
