As a civil rights leader in America, Martin Luther King did many things to improve the lives of African Americans in the United States. Most people, however, may think that though Dr. King did much to help Americans, he did not really connect to the rest of the world. But that is not true. Martin Luther King was highly influenced by Mohandus Gandhi, and King used Gandhi's ideas of non-violent marches to send messages to the rest of the nation. A lot of people in the U.S. had not been aware of what was happening to African-Americans in the
South. The world was already familiar with Gandhi's actions from years ago, so when King adopted some of his methods, most people began to draw connections with King and Gandhi.

Martin Luther King helped African-Americans get their basic civil rights that all other Americans took for granted. He also improved the lives of those who were not being treated fairly and with the same respect as one would expect a white person to recieve. These changes in the United States of America, a world superpower, where heard througout the whole earth. Not only was King a familiar name to those in the U.S., but his name was known by people in other countries as well. His peaceful actions were brought to the attention of many, and he provided hope to those who were experiencing the same hardships as African-Americans.
