:: School Closed Tuesday, February 9
:: Second Trimester Extended - To date we have lost 4 days during this trimester to weather. To make up lost class time we will extend 2nd trimester by a week. Therefore, we will move the end of 2nd trimester to Friday, February 26 with finals held on Thursday, 2/25/10 and Friday, 2/26/10. The start of 3rd trimester will be Monday, March 1st.
:: Valentine’s Day Blood Drive [2/10] The Valentine’s Day Blood Drive is Wednesday, February 10. Donors already signed up should have received an appointment during first period yesterday. You must have your permission slips in before donating.
:: Data Match - Buy your Data Match outside the Cafeteria during all lunches. They are $1.00 each. Find out your love match today!
:: Valentine Cookies [2/12] You can order your customized Valentine Cookies from your friendly Orchestra members. Cookies are $2.00 and will be delivered on Friday, February 12.
:: Habitat for Humanity [2/18] Tickets are now available for the BHSN and BHSS Habitat for Humanity dinner and silent auction an “Evening for Habitat”. Please join us for this gala event on Thursday, February 18 from 6:00 -9:00 P.M. at Terry’s Banquets and Catering. Tickets are $40.00 each, $23.00 of which is tax-deductible. All proceeds from this evening go toward funding next year’s build. If you are interested in tickets, please contact Erin Crowley.
ACADEMICS
:: Cancelled Courses - Students: Due to low interest, a few course offerings for next year have been cancelled. Counselors are currently placing students in alternate courses for those cancelled classes. The list of cancelled courses is posted on the Counseling Office door. If you have any questions about next year's schedule, please see your counselor.
:: Practice SAT and ACT Exams [2/20-21] Key Club and Sylvan Learning are offering two opportunities to take practice SAT and ACT exams at BHS South. Tests will be scored and results will be returned to parents and students with tips for improvement. Students may take the full-length SAT or ACT exam or both. The cost for each practice exam is $10.00. Dates are Saturday, February 20, 9:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. and Sunday, February 21, 1:00 - 5:00 P.M. You may register with your $10.00 fee in the South Bookstore. Students who register and pay by February 12 will be entered for a chance to win an iPod. :: Attention students who are taking W131 or L202 third trimester: - Please be looking for mail from Indiana University concerning registration for these courses for I.U. credit. There will be a small window of opportunity to register for credit--please register ASAP after you receive your instructions in the mail. You will also need to bring a paper copy of your registration to Mrs. Stake. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Stake in the Counseling Office.
:: Attention students in an AP class [2/8-2/26] Attention students: If you are in an AP class, you will soon be receiving the AP bulletin concerning AP exams in May. Please be aware that payment and registration for AP exams will occur from Monday, February 8 through Friday, February 26 in the Bookstore before and after school and during lunch. There will be no late registration. Math and science tests will cost $10 and all other tests will cost $86. If you are eligible for free and reduced lunch, or if you need special accommodations for testing, please see Mrs. Stake before you register for AP exams. The following tests will be offered this May: Biology, Chemistry, Physics B, Physics C, Statistics, Calculus A/B, Calculus B/C, Language and Comp, Literature and Comp, European History, US History, and Microeconomics. :: IU SAT Prep Course [3/22] Review your math, verbal, and writing skills in preparation for the official SAT exam with IU Bloomington Continuing Studies’ SAT Prep course that includes twelve review sessions and two practice tests. The course is taught by experienced high school teachers yet it is inexpensive compared with the alternatives. Class is held on the IU campus and temporary parking permits are available for a one-time $8 fee. The first session starts Monday, March 22. You must register in advance! Course tuition is $200 if you enroll at least one week prior to the first session; the registration fee within one week of the start date is $210. :: College Goal Sunday [2/21] Attention seniors: Do you and your parents need help filling out your FAFSA? Never fear, College Goal Sunday is almost here. On February 21, 2:00 P.M., at Ivy Tech, parents and students can get free help filling out the main financial aid application for college. :: College Admissions Program [2/23] Bloomington High School North is having a College Admissions Program for 9th – 11th graders on Tuesday, February 23 from 6:30-9:00 P.M. in the Bloomington North Library, featuring panels of area college admissions representatives and recent Bloomington North Alumni. This event is free and open to the public.
:: Financial aid for college [3/10] Seniors: Don't miss out on financial aid for college. Be sure and apply before Wednesday, March 10. Fill out your financial aid forms for college finances online. Your parents and your income information will be needed. Go to the FAFSA website to apply. You will need to sign up for a PIN number first. If you have questions, please see your counselor.
:: Scholarships - Several new scholarships have recently been posted so either check out the website for additional information or come to the Counseling Office to look through the Scholarship Box. One new scholarship of interest is for any senior in National Honor Society that participates in helping with the blood drives! Check it out - this could be as much as $2500 for college!
:: Attention all students who took the PSAT: - Be sure to look in the lower right corner of your test results to get your "My College Quickstart" code. The "My College Quickstart" is feature you can use on the college board website. This is a new, easy to use online personalized college and career planning kit that all students who took the PSAT have access to.

:: Young Life [2/9] Come on out for a great time at Young Life Tuesday, February 9 at 7:32 P.M. It will be at Samantha Collins’ house. Fliers with directions are in the Main Office.
:: Amigos [2/27] Anyone in the Amigos group interested in attending the leadership conference on February 27 needs to bring their permission slips to A107 in order to reserve a spot on the waiting list.
:: Spring Shadow Mentor [3/28] Get involved in campus outreach; apply to become a Spring Shadow Mentor. Three sessions: March 28-30; April 4-6; April 11-13.
